A memory of Neha Limaye (1974–2026), artist, writer and cook. Shared by Ahaan Limaye.
Last year, I was home for a couple of weeks after graduating college and before leaving for an internship in California. For whatever reason, it was just my mom and me at home, so we decided to go to our favorite brunch spot, Blue Cafe. I talked about my plans for the summer and my uncertainty about returning to school in the fall for my master’s. She talked about her struggles at Mango Tree and the things she wanted to improve. I ordered an eggs benny with a latte, and she ordered a warsaw skillet with a fresh-pressed carrot sunshine juice. We both loved the food there (more so than Dad and Sia) There was nothing particularly special about this brunch with my mom. Honestly, there were probably a few lulls in the conversation, since neither of us was especially chatty with the other. But it was a nice, simple memory between just me and her before our year took a wild turn.
