Fry me some tomatoes - good old green tomatoes.

Fry me some tomatoes - good old green tomatoes. . The first time I had these crispy, crusty, crunchy delights was on my first trip down to the Carolinas. And needless to say, I was in love. Ever since, I’ve always been on the lookout for these green beauties at the local farmers’ market. Nowadays, these sometimes show up in grocery stores as well... but for me, getting them from the farmers’ market still holds some charm. ☺️ . Let’s get frying: Wash and slice tomatoes. Sprinkle salt and let them sit. Prep the standard 3 step breading station: 3 flat bowls containing - 1) Flour with just a sprinkling of seasoning (optional: garlic powder, red pepper, salt or any ready seasoning of choice, like Cajun seasoning). 2) Egg and buttermilk. (I like buttermilk, but you can go with regular milk or water). 3) Cornflour and finely crushed tortilla chips. (Usually it’s breadcrumbs in this bowl, but I like the flavor and crunch that corn tortilla chips add to the tomatoes). The final round - Pat tomatoes dry, coat with flour mix in bowl 1, dip in egg mix in bowl 2, cover with cornflour mix in bowl 3 and shallow fry in a pan with hot oil, until golden brown on both sides. Repeat with rest of the slices. . Serve with a spiced sour cream dip or just plain old sour cream and experience the crunch of this hearty plated expression! . Make it. Share it.
